SUMMARY:Teens Tackle Paper Streets & Civic Design: Charette 1
DESCRIPTION:There’s an unused plot of land right behind The Scrap Exchange on Chapel Hill Road. It’s officially mapped as a road on city plans\, but it was never built. Durham has about 700 of these “paper streets” across the city\, covering roughly 400 acres of unused land. This one is ours to reimagine. \necho’s Youth Advisory Council is leading a 4-part community charrette series to give this space a future shaped by the people who actually live and work nearby. Built on echo’s For Youth\, By Youth model\, this isn’t a project where young people are just invited to show up. They’re running it. \nCharrette 1 kicks off on Saturday\, April 25th\, and echo’s Youth Advisory Council needs YOUR input to get this started right. The ideas\, concerns\, and visions shared at this first event will directly shape the options presented at Charrette 2. This is the moment to get in on the ground floor. \nCome through. Share what you want to see. Leave your mark. \n  \n🗓 Saturday\, April 25\, 2026 \n⏰ 12–3pm \n📍 Behind The Scrap Exchange | 2050 Chapel Hill Rd\, Durham\, NC 27707 \n🌟 Free and open to the community \n  \nThere will be art\, interactive stations\, conversation\, food\, and drinks — and your voice will be on the record. \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Trauma Responsive Communication Webinar Series: Bottom-Up Brain Strategies for Successful Encounters
DESCRIPTION:Join the first training in the Trauma Responsive Communication Webinar Series from the Mid-Atlantic Public Health Training Center. \nAdverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)\, chronic stress\, and secondary stress can affect how individuals regulate emotions\, process information\, and engage in conversations—particularly during challenging or high-stress interactions. Drawing on the Neurosequential Model developed by Dr. Bruce Perry\, this training introduces bottom-up brain strategies that support regulation before attempting problem solving or difficult conversations. Participants will explore the Regulate–Relate–Reason sequence and learn why regulation and connection often need to come before reasoning or problem-solving. Through guided reflection and break-out discussions\, participants will assess their own stress triggers and responses\, consider how dysregulation can influence interactions with clients and colleagues\, and identify practical strategies to manage stressful encounters.\n\nLearning Objectives\nAt the conclusion of this webinar\, participants will be able to: \n\ndescribe how stress can affect nervous system regulation and communication;  \nexplain the Regulate–Relate–Reason sequence; and \nidentify bottom-up brain strategies that providers can use in practice. \n\nDate and Time\nThursday\, May 21\, 2026\nnoon–1 p.m. Eastern\n\nLocation\nOnline. Information to access the course will be sent upon registration. \nTarget Audience\nThis presentation is appropriate for public health and clinical practitioners\, community health centers’ staff\, and social services personnel working in community settings.\n\nContinuing Education Credit\nContinuing education credits for certified public health professionals (CPH-CE\, 1 hour) are available. To receive credit\, participants must attend from beginning to end and complete an evaluation; no partial credit will be given. \nFor more information about this course or for assistance with registration\, contact marphtc@pitt.edu.
