Teens Tackle Paper Streets & Civic Design: Charette 1

There’s an unused plot of land right behind The Scrap Exchange on Chapel Hill Road. It’s officially mapped as a road on city plans, but it was never built. Durham has about 700 of these “paper streets” across the city, covering roughly 400 acres of unused land. This one is ours to reimagine.

echo’s Youth Advisory Council is leading a 4-part community charrette series to give this space a future shaped by the people who actually live and work nearby. Built on echo’s For Youth, By Youth model, this isn’t a project where young people are just invited to show up. They’re running it.

Charrette 1 kicks off on Saturday, April 25th, and echo’s Youth Advisory Council needs YOUR input to get this started right. The ideas, concerns, and visions shared at this first event will directly shape the options presented at Charrette 2. This is the moment to get in on the ground floor.

Tenemos la oportunidad de reimaginar el terreno sin usar que está justo detrás de The Scrap Exchange en Chapel Hill Road. Está oficialmente mapeado como una calle en los planos de la ciudad, pero nunca fue construido. Durham tiene alrededor de 700 de estas “calles de papel” en toda la ciudad, cubriendo aproximadamente 400 acres de terreno sin uso.

El Consejo Asesor Juvenil de echo está liderando una serie de 4 conversaciones comunitarias para que las personas que viven y trabajan cerca puedan definir el futuro de este espacio. Basado en el modelo Para Jóvenes, Por Jóvenes de echo, este no es un proyecto donde los jóvenes simplemente son invitados a participar, liderar y compartir su voz. Ellos son quienes lo están dirigiendo.

La Conversación 1 comienza el sábado 25 de abril, y necesitamos TU aporte para empezar bien. Las ideas, preocupaciones y visiones compartidas en este primer evento darán forma directamente a las opciones presentadas en la Conversación 2. Este es el momento de ser parte desde el principio.
