Story of DART
The Durham Adverse Childhood Experiences and Resilience Taskforce (DART) began meeting in 2017, born out of the State of Durham’s Young Children Report and a desire from County Commissioners to bring together practitioners, researchers, and clinicians from across Durham. DART builds on the strong foundation of ACEs and resilience work that has been happening for decades. DART’s mission, vision, and goals are described below.
Mission
To build upon the strengths of Durham’s communities and systems, advancing an equitable and culturally responsive approach to prevent and respond to toxic stress and trauma.
Vision
Durham is a resilient community where all people thrive.
Goals
- Raise awareness and create a shared understanding about ACEs, toxic stress, trauma, and resilience by partnering with individuals, communities, and organizations.
- Promote trauma- and resilience-informed culture and practices in all community systems and organizations.
- Educate policy makers and advocate for data-driven systems change to better support trauma-informed approaches across the community.
- Expand access to equitable, culturally responsive, evidence-based, trauma-informed prevention, screening, and treatment.
