Resisting By Reimagining: Black SEL Summit

The upcoming Black SEL Summit will mark the launch of the nation’s first intergenerational Black SEL Hub at Hillside High School. The day begins with a ribbon cutting ceremony and guided tour of the new space, created as a culturally grounded hub for prevention, healing, and leadership. Attendees will hear from Black SEL leadership, school partners, and community leaders, followed by opportunities to explore the Hub in person or virtually and learn how it is designed to affirm and uplift Black students and families.

The summit continues with a live, interactive convening that brings the Black SEL Framework to life through youth-led dialogue, community-based research, and hands-on activities. The evening culminates with the Dressed to Defy Gala, an annual celebration honoring Black fashion as a form of resistance, remembrance, and self-expression. Featuring live music, powerful storytelling, and bold fashion inspired by Black history and culture, the gala invites attendees to celebrate the brilliance and resilience of Black communities while imagining a liberated future together.
