These foundational trainings offer key information and tools that can help you adopt a more trauma-informed lens in how you engage with the Durham community.
All trainings are offered in English and Spanish, in-person and online.
Trauma-Informed Care 101
Timing: 1 hour to full day
- Defines trauma and how it impacts everyone
- Introduces the principles of trauma informed care
- Provides context for how trauma informed care can help achieve equitable outcomes
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) 101
Timing: 1 hour to full day
- Defines ACEs at the individual and community level
- Introduces the concept of building resilience and how it can mitigate the impact of ACEs
- Provides context for how mitigating ACEs can help achieve racial equity
Community Resiliency Model Training
Timing: 90 minutes or 3 hours
- Provides information about the impact of trauma and chronic stress on the nervous system
- Teaches a skills-based approach on how resiliency can be restored or increased
Mental Health First Aid
Timing: Full day
- Provides information about the risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns
- Teaches strategies for how to help someone in a variety of situations
- Offers resources for additional help
Youth Mental Health First Aid
Timing: Full day
- Teaches how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis
- Introduces common mental health challenges for youth and reviews typical adolescent development
- Covers topics including anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders

Yes, these trainings are intended for organizations. However, if you are not affiliated with an organization, we occasionally offer similar trainings for individuals. Please check out the Events page for upcoming trainings.
